Children's Classes
Children are the most precious resource a community has. Bahá'ís believe that moral, spiritual, and values-based training for children are essential in order to nurture these capacities. Thus, Bahá'í communities worldwide sponsor moral education classes for children of all backgrounds. The classes seek to develop essential virtues such as generosity, honesty and kindness. They aim to build a strong moral framework that will assist children to achieve excellence in material, intellectual, health and spiritual aspects of life. In order to form an identity on a local level, we have called and branded our classes as Hooray!
Much like a young tree, children will grow and develop in whatever way they are trained and according to the influences they experience. The classes encourage children to recognise their own nobility and the inherent nobility of their friends. The children acquire knowledge and moral capacities which they can integrate into their everyday lives. Lessons are catered for children at around the ages of 5 to 10 years and normally run for around 1.5 hours. The format consists of: quotations, stories, songs, arts & crafts and games & activities.
Children's Virtue Classes
The Bromley community places great emphasis on the moral education of children, with a focus on providing ongoing opportunities for developing a sense of world citizenship and a lifelong commitment to serve humanity. These are - virtues and not religious education classes - that are intended to nurture morally vibrant and healthy young people who will grow up without prejudice and with a positive, powerful sense that we all have a role to play in helping our world to become a better place. Teacher are trained formally through a children's class workshop. Topics include unity, love and truthfulness. At the end of each lesson children are given a free virtue booklet covering that week's session, with a virtue activity calendar, to encourage the children to put into practice what they have learnt.
Arts & Crafts Exhibition
After each lesson the children are asked to create an artistic piece of work in their own time illustrating the given virtue learnt during the class, for example, love or unity, and bring the creative piece with them to the next lesson. There is no restriction to the creative imagination of children; it could be a painting, a drawing, montage of photographs, or a handmade craft and so on. Thereafter, a free Arts & Crafts Exhibition, with refreshments, is organised to showcase all the children's creative works. Parents, friends and family are all invited to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the artistic flair of children in our local community.
When and where?
The classes are facilitated by CRB checked teachers, which are FREE and open to everyone! They are organised on the last Saturday of every month from 3:00-4:30pm. The venue is a hall hired at Bromley United Reformed Church, 20 Widmore Road, Bromley, Kent BR1 1RY. Right next to Boots, The Glades!
